Sure thing. Is this a safety inspection, an emissions test, or both? Some counties require both.

The whole thing usually takes about thirty to forty-five minutes. We will check your brakes, tires, lights, horn, windshield wipers, and then run the emissions diagnostic. Just pull your car into bay three.

The safety inspection is twenty-five dollars and the emissions test is another thirty. So fifty-five total. If your vehicle fails, we will let you know what needs to be fixed and you can come back for a free retest within thirty days.

The most common failures are a check engine light being on, worn brake pads, burnt-out headlights or taillights, cracked windshield, and expired or worn tires. If your check engine light is on, that is an automatic fail for emissions.

Your vehicle failed on two items — the left brake light is burnt out and your front tires are below the minimum tread depth. Here is the inspection report listing everything. Once you get those fixed, bring the car back for a free retest.

You have thirty days from today to get the repairs done and come back for the free retest. After thirty days, you would have to pay for a new full inspection. I would suggest getting it done sooner rather than later since you cannot legally drive with failed inspection past your renewal date.

A brake light bulb is an easy fix — you can buy one at any auto parts store for a few dollars and replace it yourself. The tires, though, you will need to go to a tire shop. Make sure the new tires meet the minimum tread depth of two thirty-seconds of an inch.

For the free retest, we only check the items that failed. It should only take about ten minutes. Just bring the original inspection report with you so we know what to look at.
